The EU Manufacture of Glass and Glass Products Index (calendar adjusted, not seasonally adjusted) rose 14.7% month-on-month (m-o-m) in September (latest available data), representing a 0.2% year-on-year (y-o-y) decrease.
Glass manufacturing in the EU rebounded following the August seasonal lull, increasing to levels achieved throughout the summer, which some players have interpreted as a sign of market strength. However, others noted that the EU container glass market “will not be any better in 2026 than it was in 2025,” with several players expecting further declines in manufacturing results.
Indeed, many players have recently reported that raw material inventories, especially cullet, are elevated, and that demand for raw materials has started to decline among glass manufacturers. Due to the slowdown in trade activity within raw material markets, sources expect EU glass manufacturing indices to soon show a fall in manufacturing levels.
