Expana Proposes to Launch 3 Organic Grains and Oilseeds EBP

August 29, 2025

Expana is proposing to launch 3 Expana Benchmark Prices (EBP) for organic grains and oilseeds, focusing on key Italian commodities: Organic Wheat Milling 11% EXW IT, Organic Barley Feed EXW IT, and Organic Soybeans EXW IT. Expana is collecting feedback from market participants until Thursday, September 18, 2025.

If the industry supports this proposal, Expana intends to launch the weekly assessments on Friday, October 3, 2025.

The proposed specifications for the assessment would be as below:

The assessments would reflect the transactable value at 16:00:00 London time.

Italy ranks among the top five producers and consumers of organic milling wheat in Europe and has driven three-quarters of the EU’s growth in organic soft wheat production since 2017. In addition to raw grain, Italy is a leading producer of organic pasta and flour, with organic ingredients central to its value chain. Barley feed is a critical input for the sustainable livestock sector, where organic demand is expanding but formalized pricing remains lacking. Likewise, organic soybeans play an important role in Italian animal feed and ingredient supply chains, though transparency in this segment is limited.

The proposed assessments would help bring transparency to traditionally opaque segments of the organic grains and oilseeds markets, complementing Expana’s existing coverage of conventional markets.
