Palm oil and its derivative products, including palm olein, are among the most widely used vegetable oils globally, with India being a major consumer, accounting for approximately 12% of global palm oil consumption. Palm olein is primarily used in the food industry but also serves non-food purposes, such as its usage as a biodiesel feedstock and in the cosmetics industry. This assessment complements Expana’s comprehensive palm oil coverage, providing additional granularity and information for the global palm oil markets.

Indonesia, along with Malaysia, is a key producer and exporter of palm oil and its derivatives, with Palm Fatty Acid Distillate (PFAD) being a critical component of the palm complex. The increasing global palm oil supply has led to higher availability of PFAD residue for various uses, including use as a renewable raw material in biofuel production. PFAD is also used for animal feed and in the oleochemical industry.
